Repurposing an Old Dog Kennel Into a Potting Shed- Part I
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.Месяц назад
When we purchased our property the previous owners at some time bred hunting dogs. There was a dog run and an old dilapidated dog kennel hidden in the massive over growth. Our goal is to repurpose the old dog kennel for a different use. Follow us as we transform the building into a functional potting shed! How to Set Up a Worm Bin in a Raised Bed
You are the second person to cook.for seven minutes. Some said 30 while comments on the 30 said you need to cook for 50. And yes they were using a pressure cooker.
Maybe they weren't soaking them overnight?
Soooo, you never mentioned what the seeds are for. Do we plant, cook, use it for some dish? Do the seeds grow into the plant? You did a good first step, but I’m left hanging on what to do with the seeds🫠
This is not quite correct for garlic. The vast majority of garlic today (90%) doesn’t produce true seed. Instead, the flower head is covered in bubils, hundreds of mini garlic cloves that over a 2-3 year period will mature into individual garlic bulbs. Of the remaining 10% that can produce true seed they will only give you 10-20 seeds and most of those will fall to germinate. There are a few farms that do try to collect this seeds because they believe it’s important to the long term health garlic to not just produce asexually. For the average gardener, simply planting cloves each fall or collecting the bubils and expanding their crop over several years will be the most productive course
How do youset up the water indicator?
Wish you would have shown the "sheeting" when it was actually doing it right
Buy some masterblend i use it in mine its more economical too it works very well for a nutrient solution for most everything.
We were almost done and a single side metal molding for the door was missing. Waiting for that part to be shipped.
By far the best video on you tube. I am halfway there. TY so much
Is there a certain type of water u have to use
What about the two washers that came with the guage?
I want to place the greenhouse on my lawn without any foundation. Any ideas how I can secure it to the ground? ty
🇨🇦❤️👨🌾Nice Job with the Raised Bed and covering Folks! Very CLEVER and it looks sturdy!
Going to do the same to an old Vermont Casting propane grill. Great video!! 👍
what connects the door to the frame?
A pin works as a hinge for the door to open and close
Quiescent lied about it being 20' x10' x 6.6" these succeeded by building the bottom frame first and then trenching. I built 20x10 with 4x4" with 2' rebar drilled and hammered into ground, stacked for foundation to prevent flyaway. But the actual length and width is several inches short in both directions, and it slightly wider in the middle. Go to specifications: Size (WxLxH) 19.7x9.8x6.6FT (copy pasted here for you). So now I likely will buy more treated lumber to make up the difference. They have two kinds one flaps down, and the other door cover slides over work it back and forth with curve at top. I wanted more height so I wouldn't need to stoop down going in and out. Caveat, the video shows placement in an open field which gives more access to winds. Plan your build for the southern exposure. I use similar covers for raised beds that zip and tie down on similar small frame. The covers deteriorate the green ones anyway in a year and a half of year-round exposure, the plastic seems to melt and flake away while the reinforcing threads hold up. Covers are replaceable. I bought heavy 6 mil clear plastic; I will try to drape over the reinforced cover if it deteriorates. I would never trust those straight stakes with the thin string to hold the greenhouse down in storms. I am almost ready to throw the cover over, after I get more lumber. I may post same but not sure about a video, maybe photos as I progressed. I will see what my wife thinks. Going to do exact measurements before buying lumber. I am thinking of bolting six 2x6x10's atop my four by fours to make up for the too small frame. Then use 1" conduit steel clamps to secure the frame to the foundation.
Hi! I was curious which type and brand of covered cloth/shade you used! Thank you in advance.
We bought it at Home Depot years ago.
Nice, informative and instructive video. How did it work for wood fires? Do you still use it?
No, we gave it to someone who could use it more than us.
I’m impressed with your ability to Repurpose, Reclaim and Upcycle!
I think it looks great so far….the Raised Beds look super good! I’ll drop back for sure! Stay connected brother!
Yes, get the tank all fitted over your well…great idea….very clever and smart!
First like here my FRIEND….installed Artesian Well 3 years ago! Hooked it up this spring and just had the water tested.
Wow! fantastic video. I thank you providing the detail as you go along. My AmeriLife is somewhat similar to your prefabricated greenhouse. I'm just installing the base on the patio today so; I like how you both detailed that part also. I will most likely save and watch again. Thanks for recording and sharing your journey. Nice job!
I clicked like and tube blocked it. How many more?
We have one more video in the series!
@@DaysWellSpent That's not the point, The point is YT censored your thumbs up on your video. Ugh.
@@MsWings4 I understood your comment but RUclips censoring likes is out of my control.
I actually reinvented this myself recently. I saw water dripping out of my ac and realized it did not smell like rot like the house water did. I am able to do dishes and take baths with a small AC window unit. I put a gallon jug under it with the neck of a mountain dew bottle for a funnel and ran a bit of soap through the channel to clean it out and the water is nice and clear. I had no idea it was such a thing.
If you don't have a canner will a big pot work and can the jars sit on the bottom? I finished making some jelly tonight. Also can the jars be canned after they've been in the refrigerator or will it only work right after making?
You do not have to can the jelly immediately, but you do want to can it within about 24 hrs of making it. With a large pot, you still need a rack at the bottom of the pan to prevent the jars from sitting on the bottom of the pan and breaking.
Thank You for the Inspiration June 2024.
My VT Castings Grill has just flatlined after 25 years. Many delicious meals cooked on it. Very similar to yours the inside rusted out and it's no longer safe when lite up. Thanks to your video, I am going to look to repurpose it to charcoal grill. I agree with Rob K., a brillent use of barrel section.
Thanks for watching!
20 years ago my then husband and I built a barn together, we built it with giant lag bolts and nuts and numbered each board. Three years ago when I left my hometown, it was wonderful being able to take the barn apart and rebuild it on my new property.
Love my pressure cooker. Love to add onion celery peppercorns bay garlic, carrot, etc... just leave the salt until after so peas, beans, etc get soft in cooker. Adding salt tends to make Fava, chickpeas, etc take much longer to soften up
Also you can use way less water with good pressure cooker. May not even have to cover fully depending on been pea etc
No expansion fittings to keep the conduit from cracking in temp changes?
what if i dont use the plant food A and B? my brother wants everything organic so i bought a liquid soil enhancer (marphyl)
How has this held up over time?
After almost a year, several storms, and lots of high winds, it is no longer standing. We actually took apart what was left of it last week.
Seems like an expensive way to get one day's worth of salad.
You don't just harvest from it once; the plants will keep producing new leaves.
Thank you very much. My husband has a gas grill that is not working and it looks brand new. I didn’t want to just throw it away. 😊
Can Spinach seeds be soaked in water a day before and then put in the Hydroponics ? Thank you
Yes, they can.
ok I have a question. We bought the 28x10x7.5 ft. we are having trouble with door. Did you cut the plastic to put the handles on? Or did you just screw through the plastic? And did your manual say anything about an H accessory? Ours did but did not tell us or show us what it was.
The instructions were lacking in several areas! We put the screws through the plastic.
What size are the screws for anchoring the foundation? My instructions just say “suitable” and not included
Don't use cardboard. Studies show it has forever chemical.
Please protect your family’s health. Read up on Legionella bacteria and the risks of using condensate as if it was potable water. It’s not. It’s best to filter it and hit it with UV. You may even want to treat it with a mild biocide. Be careful.
It just seems dangerous to drink this water without an official test done by a scientist. My drip smells a little aromatic. Strange.
You two work well together. A long time since this was posted but I hope you're well an still building! This is a neat design for sure. I'll add these features but look to get it / them wheelbarrow height. Best from BC.
I live at the speedway!
What about your ventilation for the smoke or your damper to control your temperature
I got exactly the same model, but I built 2x12 lumber garden boxes. 4’ wide running full length on both sides with a 2’ walkway down the center. Only need to install the doors and the plastic cover, but got hit by a so far 2 day rain storm…sucks ! 😂
Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!! You helped us so much when we couldn’t work out tricky bits ❤
Great job explaining with out a lot of talking!! Thank you for such a wonderful DIY video with ease of use!
How long were the vertical fence post you used? And how far down did you cement them in? Working on my own in a week
You dont need too do all that just use a fork 😅😅😅
How many pieces of steel did you use on this work?
So about water, should I just add more when it evaporates or completely replace with fresh water and plant food? If yes, how often? Thank you!
